Why does Australia Post issue a tax invoice?
Australia Post must provide customers with a tax invoice for any purchase of more than $55.00 (including GST). You will not be entitled to claim an input tax credit for the postage until you hold a tax invoice.

No. The Australia Post tax invoice is a record of a purchase and does not require payment.
When will I receive a tax invoice from Australia Post?

If you reset your franking machine over the counter at the post office, your tax invoice will be issued to you by our counter staff at the time of each reset.

If you reset your machine by phone or modem and pay for postage via your supplier your tax invoice will be mailed to you by Australia Post. These tax invoices are generated on the 1st and 15th of the month, for all postage meter resets conducted during the preceding period.

If you reset your machine by phone or modem and pay for postage via your Australia Post business credit account your tax invoice will be mailed to you by Australia Post and you will receive a consolidated tax invoice with your monthly statement.
