Parcel Dimensions (non contract)

How big?  How small?  How heavy?

Maximum Weight

The maximum allowed weight of a parcel that can be lodged at a retail counter is 20kg.

Maximum Size

The length of the greatest linear dimension of a parcel must not exceed 105cm.

The girth of a parcel must not exceed 140cm.

Some examples of how to measure the length and girth follow:

Cylinders

If the parcel is a long cylinder, its axis (length) must not exceed 105cm and its circumference (girth) must not exceed 140cm.

Boxes

If the parcel is box-shaped, then its length (its longest dimension) must not exceed 105cm.  The girth, measured around the two other dimensions, must not exceed 140cm.

Irregular shapes

If the parcel is irregular in shape, its length is the distance between the two furthest-apart points on the surface of the article and must not exceed 105cm.  The girth, measured around the "fattest" part of the article at right angles to its length, must not exceed 140cm.

Minimum Size

The girth of a parcel must be at least 16cm.  For example, a broom handle or a pencil-shaped parcel is not acceptable.

If the parcel is box-shaped, both its length and its width must be at least 5cm.

Cubic Weight

For parcels over 1kg that are square or rectangular in shape, Australia Post will assess charges according to their actual weight or cubic weight equivalent, whichever is greater.  The cubic weight is the parcel's volume in cubic metres multiplied by 250.

Australia Post reserves the right to also apply cubic charges to a parcel weighing less than 1kg, and to parcels that are irregular or cylindrical in shape.
