To send money to someone in China, all you have to do is visit a participating Australia Post outlet displaying the Bank@Post sign and complete an IMO “Send Money Order” form. It’s that simple.
When receiving money from China, encourage your family and friends to try the new IMO service available at China Post. You can receive your money in cash at participating Australia Post outlets or the money can be deposited directly into your Australian bank account.

- When receiving an IMO in cash from an Australia Post outlet, the status of your money transfer can be checked by completing the "Receive Money Order" form and then providing it to the counter staff.
- When receiving an IMO via your nominated bank account, you can call Australia Post staff on 1300 734 874 to check the status of your money transfer. If you do so, please be mindful your identity will need to be verified by staff. Please be prepared with the following information: name, address, the amount in US/AUD, the sender’s details and IMO identifier which is a 26 digit number that starts with “J20A...”. Or you could simply check with your financial institution or bank account to see if money has been received. Fees and charges apply for this service.
- After 40 calendar days, unclaimed funds will be returned to the sender in the event the money is not redeemed by the recipient.

- The process of sending an IMO is easy. All you need to do is complete a simple form which is available from over 3,000 Australia Post outlets displaying the Bank@Post sign and provide two types of acceptable identification.
- IMO allows you to choose between a cash transfer or a transfer directly into the receiver’s bank account, making the process convenient for both the sender and the receiver.
- When sending money to China, money is sent in US dollars (USD) and you can nominate to have the money paid out to the recipient in two ways:
- for collection in cash at China Post outlets, or
- by direct deposit into a Postal Savings Bank of China account
- When receiving money in Australia, money is received in Australian dollars (AUD) and you can receive the money in two ways:
- for collection in cash at a participating Australia Post outlets, or
- by direct deposit into your Australian bank account.
