Servicing the 'new economy'

Servicing the 'new economy'

To meet the demands of the 'new economy' we focused on three fundamental areas:

  • developing e-procurement trading hubs to lower internal and external transaction costs, joining with 13 major corporations as founding partners in the internet-based trading hub CorProcure;
  • extending distribution of our products and services through new electronic channels, introducing Post eParcel, trialling an electronic billpay and presentment service, and preparing for trialling our internet fulfilment service - Post eDeliver - from August 2000; and
  • research and development of electronic equivalents to our current products and services.
Future challenges

We will maintain productivity growth and push corporate strategy harder over the "three horizons" of existing, emerging and new businesses. Our key strategy is utilising technology to reposition ourselves from being a carrier of mass mailings to one facilitating interactive and targeted messaging in the consumer and business markets. Our objectives include to:

  • further improve customer focus;
  • meet increased competition following introduction of the Federal Government's postal industry liberalisation package; and
  • achieve a high performance, team-based workplace with effective succession planning.
Our core product areas will see further efficiency improvement (through FuturePost), high delivery performance (through increased barcoding efficiency) and expansion of our express and logistics services.
